Customers

Manage customer details and find their invoices, subscriptions and payment methods.

A customer brings together the commercial activity of a person or company within your active account. Creating a customer does not initiate a payment or subscription.

Create or update a customer

You need access to manage customers. Confirm the active account before saving.

  1. Open Collections → Customers and select Create customer.
  2. Enter a valid email and an optional name.
  3. Select the customer's preferred language: English, Spanish or Portuguese.
  4. Enable the optional address section if needed. Complete its country, street, city, postal code and state when required.
  5. Save, then open the customer detail to check the result.

Use Edit to update an existing customer's contact information, language or address. The preferred language is used for supported customer communications; it is separate from your own profile or documentation language.

Review commercial history

Open a customer to consult billing information, saved payment methods, invoices and subscriptions. Follow the linked invoice or subscription to review its amount, state and available actions.

A saved payment method does not itself prove a payment succeeded. Check the invoice's paid and outstanding amounts and its payment history. Changing customer details does not rewrite the document stored for an earlier invoice.

Give portal access

From the customer detail:

  • Open portal link opens a temporary access link without emailing the customer.
  • Send portal link requests delivery of an access link to the customer's email.

Access links are sensitive. Use the email action when inviting a customer and do not publish a personal access link. See Customer portal for the account access page and expired-link recovery.

Use customers from the API

The Customers API lets your backend create, list, retrieve, update and archive customer profiles. An email is required and unique inside the active account and environment. metadata accepts string key/value pairs; a patch merges new values and removes a key when its value is null.

Updates and archive operations require the current ETag in If-Match and a unique Idempotency-Key. Archiving is a soft delete: the history remains available, while the profile can no longer be attached to new checkout activity. Pharos rejects archival while the customer has open checkout or billing obligations.

See the Customers API for request and response schemas.

Troubleshooting

  • Customer missing: check the active account, environment, search and filters.
  • Address cannot be saved: complete the required fields for the selected country.
  • No methods or invoices: the customer may not yet have that activity; creating a contact does not populate commercial history.
  • Portal did not open: allow the browser to open the new tab and retry.
  • Email did not arrive: verify the address and delivery status where available; requesting delivery does not prove the recipient received or read it.
