Coupons

Create discount codes and enable buyers to use them at checkout.

A coupon applies a discount when the buyer enters a code. An automatic promotion evaluates its conditions without requiring a code. Configure their compatibility before offering both together.

Create a coupon

You need access to manage coupons in the active account and environment.

  1. Open Collections → Coupons and select Create coupon.
  2. Enter a unique code, such as WELCOME10, and an optional description. Codes are trimmed and stored in uppercase.
  3. Choose a percentage or fixed discount and enter its value.
  4. For a fixed amount or minimum purchase, select the currency. The purchase must use that currency; there is no automatic currency conversion. A percentage coupon without monetary conditions is not tied to a currency.
  5. Optionally select participating products, minimum purchase, maximum uses and start and end dates.
  6. Keep the coupon active when it should be available, then save.

The coupon appears in the list with its configuration and usage. Without a product selection, the coupon has no product restriction. With a selection, the cart must contain a participating product. This condition is not a promise that the discount is calculated only on that product's lines: inspect the final checkout total when combining items.

The end date includes the selected calendar day. Maximum uses limits the coupon's available claims; unresolved purchases can reserve availability, so a limit is not simply a count of confirmed payments.

Enable and test it

  1. Create or edit the Payment Link.
  2. Enable Allow coupons in its promotions section and save.
  3. Start a new checkout attempt in Sandbox, enter the code and verify the discount and final total.
  4. Test an ineligible cart or currency and an offer with other discounts before sharing the code.

For API-created carts, use the settings supported by the Checkout Sessions reference. Creating a coupon does not automatically enable the input on every checkout.

Edit or stop offering a code

Use the coupon's actions to edit or delete it. Deactivate it to stop eligibility without removing it from the list. Review dates and usage limits before reactivating. Editing a coupon does not rewrite discounts already recorded on invoices.

Troubleshooting

  • Code already exists: edit the existing coupon or choose another code in the current environment.
  • No code input: confirm coupons are enabled on the offer and start a new checkout session after changing the link.
  • Code rejected: check activation, dates, remaining uses, currency, minimum purchase and participating products.
  • Another benefit prevents the coupon: review the promotion's coupon stacking setting and Combine discounts.
  • The discount differs from your expectation: check the final calculation base; a coupon never reduces the payable amount below zero.
